The California Supreme Court today upheld a law that dissolves the state's 400 redevelopment agencies and allows the state to seize $1.7 billion in property tax revenue to fund schools and special districts.

People in San Ramon should be outraged at Gov. Brown for this. The city has paid for a new police station, Dougherty valley performing arts center, aquatic center, and senior center thanks to redevelopment money. Now that source of revanue is gone. Redevelopment gets a bad name from a select few that misuse the money which is trouble in its own right but it has helped countless communities by getting projects off the ground that never would have happened. Gov Brown should stick to what he knows best, smoking doobies.

The irony to me is that the money will be sunk back into the schools. Hm. Guess whose asking for more money on the next ballot? Hm. We all knew this was coming for the past six months...It will certainly hit areas already blighted far more than San Ramon, no doubt about it - and frankly? I feel more sorry for such areas that seriously need the money (-though some have mispent along the way in cities). What bothers me even more, is that this is a "death" of the agency never to be resurrected in any way, shape or form. Now that's scary...
