Congressman McNerney bill to raise pay danger pay for Military passed house.
State, National, International, posted by Ron, a resident of San Ramon, on May 30, 2010 at 7:25 am

Provisions to raise certain types of pay for members of the armed forces passed the House of Representatives on Friday.

The provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act to bump up pay for troops in dangerous situations originated in legislation introduced by Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, after he returned from a trip to Afghanistan, according to a news release from his office Friday.

The bill would increase "hostile fire pay" and "imminent danger pay" from $225 to $260 per month. Hostile fire pay is for troops exposed to enemy fire or mines. Imminent danger pay is for those serving in specifically designated areas.

The bill would also increase the family separation allowance from $260 to $285 per month.

The bill will head to the Senate for consideration.
